Rosedale, in the heart of downtown Toronto, is an old area dating back to the 1820's, much of which has now been designated as an historical conservation area.†The South Rosedale Ratepayers Association website explains this in some detail and provides the historical designation for each property. †Ravines and parks aboud. Rosedale Park boasts a childrenís play area, an ice skating rink in the winter, and ample playing fields for soccer and baseball.The Rosedale Tennis Club provides a community focal point in the summer andoffers excellent clinics and lessons for all ages. The Rosedale - Moore Park Association††is located in Mooredale House, an old mansion at Crescent Road and Mount Pleasant, and provides a multitude of activities for both children and adults, including a swimming club and summer camps for children. This community center contributes in numerousways to life in Rosedale. Both North Rosedale †and South Rosedale †have active and effective ratepayers associations with informative websites.

Excellent shopping is within easy walking distance and includes specialty shops along Yonge Street near Rowanwood and the Summerhill Market offering a huge array of both fresh and prepared foods and excellent catering. Also along Summerhill Avenue are banks, a wonderful florist, dry cleaners, a video store, an orthodontist, and a hairdresser. †Major shopping, including many designer boutiques, is also very close along Bloor Street.

The public schools serving the area are Whitney and Rosedale Public Schools, both†with excellent reputations. The Catholic school is Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Jarvis Collegiate is the secondary school. Branksome Hall, a private school for girls, sits in the heart of Rosedale, while other private schools, inlcuding Upper Canada College, Bishop Strachan School, Crescent School, and The York School †are all nearby.

Downtown Toronto is quickly reached via the Rosedale Valley Road and the Bayview Extension, and a reliable and pleasant bus meanders through tree-lined streets to the Rosedale subway station.

Rosedale (click to view map) is bounded by Yonge Street to the west, the train line to the north, the Moore Park Ravine to the east and Rosedale Valley Road to the south.
